Related Science 1 & 2

This course, Related Science 1 & 2, is a required course for all cosmetologists, barbers, estheticians and manicurists.  The course comprises and runs concurrently two specific areas of study:

 

Related Science 1 covers a variety of basic science concepts related to a career in the beauty industry.  Topics include general anatomy, general physiology, basics of chemistry, and basics of electricity.  This class gives students the foundation knowledge to apply to future classes in hair care, skin care, and nail care.

 

Related Science 2 is a short training course in the areas health and safety as required by the California Board of Barbering and Cosmetology.   The curriculum covers infection control, health and safety hazards, as well as worker's rights challenges faced by beauty professionals in the workplace.  It is a mandatory course requirement for any student wishing to begin a career in the field of cosmetology in California.  Topics cover a wide spectrum, including toxic chemicals, communicable diseases, ergonomics, health and safety, legal rights, and workers' rights.
