Digital Media FAQs

How long does it take to complete a certificate program?

  • Each certificate program has an estimated amount of total hours. For example, the Graphic Design program is approximately 600 hours long. If you worked on coursework for three hours a day, you'd be on track to complete the program in one school year (two semesters, four quarters). Some programs are longer but the estimates can be adjusted based on the total hours and amount of time you spend on classwork.

Do I need to purchase anything else besides tuition?

  • You are responsible for each course book. Some content is digital video or lecture material but the Adobe coursework is from a book (ie. Photoshop, Illustrator, etc). We also require at least one USB flash drive (8-16 GB).
  • The Adobe Creative Cloud software is provided for free, so long as you are an active student in the district. Our lab has a mix of Macs and PC computers for you to use, permitting availability.

Do I need to complete the entire certificate program?

  • While we do have Graphic Design, Multimedia, Web Design & Developer, and Computer-Aided Design certificate programs, students can register for a short course that can be completed in one quarter. For those interested in a Mini Certificate Program, we suggest planning to take one or two courses, such as Photoshop and Illustrator or Premiere Pro and After Effects. This a great option for students with limited time or who have a specific goal in mind and are not looking to commit to an entire program.

Can I switch programs?

  • Yes, however, this is only advisable through completion of the first course: Photoshop. After that, each certificate program branches off into its own sequence of courses.

What can I do with my certificate?

  • We ask students their goals before beginning each program. As the program progresses, we focus on that goal and create work around the desired industry needs. Our aim is for you to complete the program with a portfolio that you're proud of and that represents you as a a creative professional. While there's no magic answer, you'll have the tools and knowledge to forge a path of your own.

Can I pick back up at a later time?

  • If you leave for a quarter or semester, you can pick up where you left off upon your return. Students who choose not to continue will have their Adobe Creative Cloud access revoked. While we strive to hold on to student work, we can't guarantee that anything saved on our computers will remain. Computers can get swapped out and / or cleaned of files.

I need help. What should I do?

  • Students in class can ask their instructor for guidance and help. If the proper instructor is not available in class and office hours are still in effect, please email or message the teacher. For students attending virtual class, emails and/ or messages are the preferred method of communication.
