Related Science 1 & 2

Related Science 1 and Related Science 2 are two required prerequisite courses for all cosmetologist, barber, esthetician and manicurist students.  Students are enrolled in both at the same time.  Daytime sessions have one class in the morning and one in the afternoon.  Evening sessions have one class followed by the next.

Related Science 1 covers a variety of basic science concepts related to a career in the beauty industry.  Topics include general anatomy, general physiology, basics of chemistry, and basics of electricity.  This class gives students the foundation knowledge to apply to future classes in hair care, skin care, and nail care.

Related Science 2 is a short training course in the areas health and safety as required by the California Board of Barbering and Cosmetology.   The curriculum covers infection control, health and safety hazards, as well as challenges faced by beauty professionals in the workplace.  It is a mandatory course requirement for any student wishing to begin a career in the field of cosmetology in California.  Topics cover a wide spectrum, including toxic chemicals, communicable diseases, ergonomics, health and safety, legal rights, workers' rights, and physical and sexual abuse awareness.
